How is Ebay making money since hardly anyone seems to shop there now?
Maybe I’m mistaken, but it seems like I never hear about people buying things on Ebay anymore. It seems Amazon is more popular. I used to be an Ebay seller, but over time, I got fewer bids on my items and often they wouldn’t sell.
However, Ebay is more profitable than it has ever been. Who is buying things on Ebay and where are these profits coming from?
You’re using what is called anecdotal evidence to support your position. Just because you don’t hear about people using eBay doesn’t mean that the business is failing. I don’t actually hear about people using Amazon either, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t shopping there.

LikeDislikeI think you are mistaken – I’m selling masses of stuff, not least because ebay now has regular free listing days to encourage sellers to list.

LikeDislikeThey make money by taking a commission on sales, and also by getting income from other people’s advertising on ebay’s site.

LikeDislikeJust because your goods aren’t selling does not mean there are not still millions of satisfied customers using eBay.
You are quite ridiculous and immature thinking it somehow smart to bad mouth a successful international auction site

LikeDislikeIf by “hardly anyone” you mean 36 million users, you’re right.

LikeDislikeIt may have a lot to do with what you were selling on eBay. I think eBay is bigger today than it was a few years ago. It has a huge attraction – you think you can get a nice deal sometimes. Amazon is nice but I prefer eBay.

LikeDislikeThe criteria on eBay has changed. In the past bids were the focus of their loyal customers; now, “buy-it-now” is most important.
Additionally, lowest prices means a lot, and so do using the right keywords in the title.
Finally, a strategy that works for some : customers will pay more for an item IF you give free shipping AND 100% refund guarantee if they send the item back; when you do this, keep your prices higher, but note you won;t get many refunds if your listing is honest, and worded in the customers’ favor!

LikeDislikeWebsites such as Auction Bytes and other anti-eBay blogs are filled with stories of people who are miserable selling on eBay. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t thousands of people very successful on eBay!
The haters would have you believe that eBay is in it’s final days, but it definitely isn’t.

LikeDislikeWIRED just featured an article about eBay in this most recent issue. eBay is making money, but not on it’s auctions. They released the figures that 31% of eBay is auctions, the rest is buy it now. It used to be that you had to go to the marketplace to search for items (go to ebay, search for hummel). Now you can use your search engine to find shopping results (go to google, search for hummel, search under shopping).
eBay is not where eBay is getting it’s money. It’s PayPal. PayPal is 99% of all eBay transactions, and then 10-25% of most internet sales. PayPal is an eBay Company, which is where it’s getting the money.
