Is there any risk to accepting a money order on ebay?
I’m selling some stuff on ebay and name? S accept PayPal. Someone? I wrote and asked if I would accept a payment order. Is there a risk for me to accept a money order? I’ve never had a turn before. Gr? Thanks!
If the buyer is in africa, its a fake money order. They deposit like real money and you only find out weeks later that the money order is fake. Usually they are US postal money orders that are the fake ones. If you accept, then refuse to send the item for a few weeks until it clear. If the guy gives you a problem about it, tell him to get paypal.

LikeDislikedon’t take it, they are often an scam because anything such as money orders, checks, bank checks or anything printable have easily been printed by crooks right on a high tech PC.

LikeDislikeThere may be a risk if it’s a counterfit, but you can tell them that the bank needs to cash it before you can send the item out.
Most money orders are just fine. People get them from the post office or bank or financial institution–they pay the cash right there and it’s like a check for cash written to them for you. Cashing them is like cashing a check with your bank when you take it in.
Personally I’ve had no problems with money orders, but then I’ve only gotten about 8 or 9 of them, not as many as regular checks. I’d say if the money order was coming from inside this country it’s probably ok. But if it’s from Nigeria or Asia, don’t accept it.

LikeDislikeI used to sell on ebay all the time, and never had a problem with MO’s. As a matter of fact, they are safer for a seller than paypal as a buyer can’t charge back a MO, but they CAN do a chargeback in paypal.
Check your buyers feedback if it’s good, then I don’t see why you should worry. You can bring it to the bank and have them check it.
like I said, i have never had a problem with MO’s
