Watch The Brothers Grimm film. A film “The Brothers Grimm” by Terry Gilliam. I don’t think myself overly literary for reading Bruno Bettelheim’s “The Uses of Enchantment,” but forgive me for being obscure. In his book, Bettelheim analyzes common fairy tales for their underlying psychological and cultural meanings. This dark-humored film relates the completely-fictional story of the famous German brothers, Wilhelm (Matt Damon) and Jakob (Heath Ledger) Grimm, who created dozens of fairy tales and nursery stories for children in the early 19th Century. Someone compared the movie to Burton’s Big Fish, another film dismissed or ignored by critics and public. Although Burton’s and Gilliam’s sensibilities differ, I take the writer’s point. Watch The Host film. A film “The Host” by Joon-ho Bong. The Host is a film that people have been talking about a lot during its production and the teasers and posters I’d seen to date had gotten me pretty interested. The Host elicits every feeling, every sense of urgency, dread, sadness and happiness with ease. And somehow it manages to cram all of that into the first fifthteen minutes. After that it speeds along and doesn’t let up. I would think there was a massive audience for this film amongst English speaking audiences…if only they would be given the chance to see it. Where’s the mainstream distribution in Australia for a film like this? Best special effects and monster effects I’ve seen in years. Watch free full The Host film online now..!!
Watch Ella Enchanted film. A film “Ella Enchanted” by Tommy O’Haver. Given the recent success of fantasy movies, it was probably inevitable that “Ella Enchanted” would get its turn on the silver screen. Like “Harry Potter,” Gail Carson Levine’s delightful re-imagining of Cinderella has been popular with both readers and critics, and contains plenty of imagination and engaging characters. I’m certainly glad I was completely unaware that this was based on a book as most of the negative comments here seem to be from people who complain about changes. I can say, that not knowing the original, this story flowed just fine. I liked it more than Shrek, because of the fact that it was less ‘polished’ and maybe more British. I would definitely recommend ‘Ella Enchanted’ to anyone who wants a fun and entertaining film. Watch free full Ella Enchanted (2004) film online.
Watch The Princess Bride film. A film “The Princess Bride” by Rob Reiner. I watched it with my parents when I was young, and have been watching it constantly ever since. It’s a movie that I just can’t seem to grow tired of. For one, I absolutely love the medieval fantasy genre, both in books and movies. The plot is rich, with adult innuendos the kids will miss all together and levels of wit to entertain the whole family. The dialogue is full of very funny catch phrases- many of which are still part of my repertoire more than a decade after I first saw the movie. Watch All Quiet on the Western Front film. A film “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Lewis Milestone. To say that this movie is one of the greatest war films of all time would be an understatement. Naturally, since the picture is based on Erich Maria Remarque’s marvelous novel, the screenwriter was given quite a powerful story to begin with. Lew Ayres is the student leader of a bunch of German school boys in 1914 who listen to the voice of their school master and enlist in the war that’s just been declared. The whole class enlists and that’s not hyperbole because in Germany at the time it was the boys who got the education and the girls if they got it, got it separately from the boys. Despite dated moments, this highly emotive war film retains its overall power and remains a great pacifist work… The film won won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director and was nominated for Best Cinematography & Best Writing. Watch The Thin Red Line film. A film “The Thin Red Line” by Terrence Malick. Saving Private Ryan was significant in that it visually depicted war in a realistic, gritty way. The Thin Red Line’s focus is more philosophical. It is about the contradiction between the beauty of nature and the destructive nature of men. The characters are portrayed by a strong ensemble cast. Acting is uniformly excellent, especially Nick Nolte as Colonel Tall, who is the unfeeling commander of the ground offensive on Guadalcanal. the Thin Red Line was definitely better than Shakespeare, and definitely a completely different film from Spielberg’s. John Toll’s cinematography and Hans Zimmer’s score work together to convey the tone of Malick’s lyrical and poetic direction, and both should have won oscars.
