Watch “The Reader” film. A film “The Reader” by Stephen Daldry. There’s an urgency in human nature to understand. David Hare wrote one of my favorite female characters in “Plenty”, Meryl Streep brought her to life in the most extraordinary way. Here, Hare writes another power house female character. All this is a pretty heady mix for a film, but Stephen Daldry makes literary conceit play very naturally here. Kate Winslet is magnificent. Her early scenes with the wonderful David Kross are filled with compelling, contradictory and totally believable undertones. “The Reader” is a film that is driven by it’s raw performances. In one of her finest hours, Kate Winslet gives the performance of a lifetime. It’s a haunting and heart-breaking. David Kross’s purity is the perfect foil for her shady complexity. There’s something very touching about the restraint and vulnerability with which he reveals the nervous awakening of this young man. All in all the movie held up well and was engrossing. The performances are so deeply moving and finely crafted, with such great inside into our human frailties and shortcomings to use words to describe them are only for those who have not had to suffer through extraordinary times. [..YouTube..] People who say that this is the movie of the year have no idea what they are talking about. Yet again we are bombarded with movies such as this one which are supposedly Oscar worthy, but are anything but that. I saw this last night, and was disappointed because I was expecting it to be the “masterpiece” that the reviewers have been saying it is. Instead, it was a very predictable with no twists or surprises whatsoever. Winslet was just ok. M.Streep should win for “Doubt”. Awesome performance.

[..YouTube..] Yes, this IS the best movie of the year. And for those who say this has no twists or surprises - you’re joking, right? One of the primary plot turns is when Michael discovers than Hanna couldn’t read, and therefore couldn’t have written the report that seals her fate. Not only was that one hell of a twist, but what he does with that knowledge is essentially what this movie is all about. The first 15 minutes of the film - re the sexual relationship - only serves to set up the rest of the film.

Their affair was situational. There is no evidence in the movie that suggests Hanna has a preference for prepubescent children over other adults, which is what distinguishes the difference between relationships that are situational, and those that are a result of pedophilia. People make this mistake all the time.

What is she doing, invoking Siemens here, when Siemens had nothing to do with the fire atrocity she’s being accused of?

The Reader is a classic unforgetable movie. This is one you want to watch in the movie theater. I’m buying the DVD the second it comes out.

The first IMO was Slumdog, because the whole film just looked spectacular.. but “The Reader” definitely had the most moving storyline, as well as the best acting. No offense, but I thought India was so gross, I couldn’t eat my popcorn. The Reader is the best movie of the year. Infact, It’s the best movie I seen in years. Yes, I am so happy Nicole Kidman did not get this partof Hannah in The Reader. It would not have been nearly as moving. There is something special about Kate Winslet. Great movie, great casting.

[..YouTube..] It’s a good film, much better than Slumdog. I watched both this weekend.The film had mixed reviews because Jews hate it. It’s a Holocaust film in which Nazis aren’t represented as cartoon monsters and nightmare bogeymen. Can’t let the Goyim feel any sympathy for a Nazi, or represent Jews as anything but 100% vindicated victims– much too dangerous. The final scene has hints of ambiguity that are simply not kosher, so no Best Picture Oscar for you.Winslet is astonishingly good.

[..YouTube..] We all know how tragic and unforgivable is what happened in WW II, but in my opinion the film concentrates also on how a relationship can change / ruin one’s life. What Hanna answers when Michael asks her “you’ve got much time thinking about the past” makes you really wonder whether she really understood what she did, but this doesn’t mean that we all acknowledge what really happened in WW II. Let’s not forget that the film is taken from a book, which is a work of fantasy, not a documentary.

[..YouTube..] Such an Awesome Movie…it touched me very Deeply, Sweetly, Sadly.I don’t see it as a Holocaust Film, but it was has many different themes, from the superficial leading to more deeper themes. It would be good, for one to watch the entirety of the Special Features on the DVD Format.This movie, definitely will be one of my Long-Time Favorites, and too bad it didn’t win Best Picture.Hope to Purchase it soon!And Kate Winslet Rocks!!

[..YouTube..] It sure is! This is the best movie I’ve seen since 2001’s “In the Bedroom”. You go into it thinking it’s about one thing, and it turns out to be something else entirely. Kate Winslet most deservedly won the Oscar for her wonderful performance here. The young German actor David Kross was excellent. Ralph Fiennes played his morose self as usual. It is a telling film about human nature. What a spellbinding film.
