I myself have overcome a few obstacles in my life and I can relate to his character in this movie. Leonardo has the ability to allow himself to be tortured, whether he is born with his tortuousness, whether he is being tortured by a crazy step father or whether he is torturing himself through the use of heavy drugs. I once saw someone said that “Diaries” is a knock off of Requiem for A Dream. And that is absolutely not true. Diaries came out in 1995, Requiem came out much later. Although this movie is based on a true story, it delivers a powerful statement to young children of his age and older about why it is not a good idea to take drugs. It’s a good film, but after waiting for such a long time for it to be adapted to the screen, the final result falls somewhere in between twee and impacting.
