I remember thinking to myself that this was one of the most visually stunning films I had ever seen in my life. College classes show this movie in their philosophy class, and at the same time can prove to be one of the best special effects movies ever. I have watched over a hundred times and I am still addicted to it. The characters are strong, characters that you can root for. However, the real star here is the direction and visual effects. The effects in particular are amazing, spell-binding, and revolutionary. Action sequences are somewhat reminiscent to Blade, but are seemingly less gratuitous, and infrequent; they are necessary in man’s fight against “the machine”. The world he is finally guided to is a grim shock and the main story of “The Matrix” is how he learns to function in it and aide his comrades in confronting it.
