Antonia San Juan is perfect in her role, Penelope Cruz is also very well, but Marisa Paredes and Cecilia Roth are wonderfull. Only one of the criticisms I’ve seen levelled at “All About My Mother” strikes me as more than merely flippant or ridiculous. The hypercharged emotionalism, a Hispanic and homosexual double whammy, bears no relation to reality, in fact, insults it. Almodovar sexualizes emotions that have nothing to do with gender. It was like an HBO soap in subtitles. I threw in the towel two thirds through the movie. Anyways this movie made me cry more than once, it is so touching, and sometimes it’s even funny! the one who is in charge of the humor in the movie is Agrado.
